Caught in most oceans, yellowfin tuna is both plentiful and overfished, depending upon the area. It grows quickly, and reproduces at a relatively young age. Most of the light canned tuna sold in the US is yellowfin tuna. As with other tuna, longline catch tends to older, larger fish with higher mercury counts and unwanted bycatch. Look for product caught with poll or troll methods.
